Sacapulas ceremonial cinta (hair ribbon).

This circa-1980 cinta was hand woven on a back-strap loom in a cotton , primarily magenta, weft-striped base panel. The fine yellow weft stripes are in silk. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade, some in silk. Each end has three tassels, mostly silk. The use of silk indicates this cinta was used ceremonially. This rare item is highly collectable and in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at her “tienda” in the Mercado de Artesanos in Antigua. W 9 x 242 cm plus tassels. (16-204) $ 300. OBO
