Quetzaltenango daily huipil.

This circa-2000 huipil was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in three purple cotton base panels that are joined by hand-embroidered decorative seams. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade featuring universal diamond and “pavo real” motifs. The head opening is decorated with an embroidered collar and ihas been opened for easier access. Quetzaltenango huipils are popular with Maya women throughout the highlands of Guatemala. This fine example was acquired from Sra. Berta Hernandez in Santa Maria de Jesus.
