Quetzaltenango daily huipil.

This large post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in three white cotton base panels that are joined by hand-embroidered decorative seams. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade featuring universal diamond, butterfly and “pavo real” motifs. The head opening is decorated with an embroidered collar and has been opened for easier access. Quetzaltenango huipils are popular with Maya women throughout the highlands of Guatemala. This striking and unusual example was acquired from Sra. Ema and Carmen Tepeú at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. It is in very good condition. W 97 x L 80 cm. (16-100) $ 130. OBO
