Quetzaltenango daily huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in three white cotton base panels that are joined by hand-embroidered decorative seams. The surface decoration includes weft stripes of supplementary brocade in geometric patterns and in ikat dye patterns. The head opening is decorated with an embroidered collar and is opened for easier access. Quetzaltenango huipils are popular with Maya women throughout the highlands of Guatemala. This fine example was acquired from Gladys Mendez Bocó at the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua. It is in very good condition. W 96 x L 64 cm. (15-83) $ 100. OBO
