Patzún vintage ceremonial huipil.

This pre-1980 vintage ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide warp striped cotton blend base panels. The panels are joined by a hand embroidered decorative seams. The base thread mixes cotton and rayon in a blend known as “aleman” that is prized for its softness and drape. Some of the base thread is “ixcaco”, hand spun naturally brown cotton. This fine example features hand-embroidered decoration around the head opening in the plumas design, typical of Patzún ceremonial huipils. It is very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Sofia Monroy Tepeú at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 118 x L 56 cm. (17-29) $ 130. OBO
