Patzún daily huipil. W 96 x L 110 cm opened. This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton/rayon blend base panels. This combination of fabrics is called “aleman” and is prized for its softness and drape. The panels are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. This huipil is unusual in that the base is primarily white instead of red, but with multicolored vertical stripes typical of Patzún. It features extensive hand embroidered decoration in the floral motif centered around the collar. The head and arm openings are trimmed with black crochet. This huipil is excellent condition. It was acquired from Juana Escalon of Patzun at the “bomberos” market in Panajachel. (11-100) $ 100. Sold.
