Patzicia ceremonial huipil.
This pre-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide warp-striped red cotton base panels that are joined by
“randas”, hand embroidered decorative seams. As in many other villages, the Patzicia ceremonial huipils are usually more simple than the daily ones.
Here, the warp stripes are the principal decoration. Patzicia ceremonial huipils are rare and no longer produced. This example is in very good condition.
It was acquired from Julio Cesar Ajanel on Calle Santander in Panajachel. W 120 x L 54 cm. (12-133) $ 125.
