Patzicia is a Kaqchikel speaking town in the Department of Chimaltenango, just off the Pan American Highway west of the departmental capital. Its economy is based in agriculture and you pass several kilometers of its fields as you travel the highway. Market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays. Their festival day is July 25th for Santiago. The base of the Patzicia huipil is typically red, often in the “aleman” material also popular in nearby Patzun. Their ceremonial "sobre" huipiles are red cotton based, often with warp stripes of ixcaco (hand spun naturally brown cotton) and silk brocade, and are worn outside the skirt.
