San Antonio Nejapa daily huipil. W100 x L125 cm opened. This rare post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 red and beige striped cotton panels. All the panels are the same width, but the center panel is much more heavily decorated. The panels are decorated with supplementary brocade featuring bird and geometric motifs. The collar is trimmed with a hand embroidered chain stitch. We have it on good authority that there remains only 3 women from one family who are still weaving San Antonio Nejapa huipils. Hence, these huipils are very rare. This example is in like new condition. It was collected from Milagro Chavez of San Juan Sacatepequez at the La Fuente market in Antigua. (10-101) $ 325. Sold.
