Santa Maria Nebaj ceremonial huipil.

This huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 white cotton base panels. The center panel has a base of hand spun thread. This center panel is decorated by supplementary brocade featuring animal, bird and geometric designs typical of Nebaj ceremonial huipils. It has a hand embroidered traditional collar representing the cardinal directions. The head opening has been opened for easier access. Authentic Nebaj ceremonial huipils are rare. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from the collection of the archaeologist Mary Lou Ridinger of Antigua who purchased it during the 1980’s. www.jademaya.com W 95 x L 98 cm.
