Santa Maria Nebaj daily huipil.

This classic circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels. The panels are decorated with complex supplementary brocade featuring animal, bird and geometric motifs typical of Nebaj weavings, here done with great density and weaving talent. The intermingling of these motifs gives the overall design an abstract quality. The traditional collar design symbolizing the four cardinal directions is hand embroidered. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Estefana Culajah at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala. W 73 x L 58 cm. (16-171) $ 240. OBO
