Nebaj corte (wrap skirt).
This circa-1980 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in one major red cotton panel plus a narrow matching piece added for length. Nebaj cortes in all
cotton are now uncommon. The weft stripes include simple ikat dye patterns. Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying
process similar to tie-dye. This example is is in very good condition. It was acquired from Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at her space in the
Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua Guatemala. The top photograph shows only half of the material. Typically, we sell cortes for yardage. W113 x L310 cm.
(12-215) $ 80.
