Nebaj daily huipil.

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels. The panels are decorated with supplementary brocade featuring animal, bird and geometric motifs typical of Nebaj weavings. The complex intermingling of these motifs gives the overall design an abstract quality. The traditional collar design symbolizing the four cardinal directions is hand embroidered. This classic example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua Guatemala. W 83 x L 56 cm. (10-60) $ 125. OBO
