Nahuala vintage ceremonial huipil or a very fine copy. W99 x L162 cm opened. This huipil is very unique in that is exceptionally large for Nahualá, indicating ceremonial use, and the cotton base thread is hand spun, only typical of very old Nahualá huipils. Yet, it is in excellent condition. It was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in the “petate” (reed mat) design featuring animal, bird, human and plumed serpent motifs. The collar is in the t-shape traditional in Nahuala. It was acquired from the Nim Po’t Collection of Antigua Guatemala. (8-327) $ 290. Sold.
