Nahuala ceremonial huipil. W85 x L128 cm opened. This huipil is believed to be ceremonial because of its three panel construction and the well executed double-headed eagle motifs. Such Nahuala huipils are referred to in Quiche as kashlan po’t. This fine circa-1980 ceremonial was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and rayon (to mimic silk). Typical of older Nahuala huipils, the red brocade has bleed on to the white base. This was intentional. Newer ones are sometimes painted with dyes to affect the staining. This fine example is in very good condition. It was collected from Manuela Marroquin of Nahuala. (7-29) $ 90 *SOLD*
