Nahuala huipil de niña.
This circa-1980 huipil de niña was hand woven on a back strap loom in two balanced white cotton panels decorated with supplementary
brocade. The panels are joined by a hand embroidered decorative seams. The supplementary brocade is in cotton and rayon and features bird motifs across the
shoulders and the “petate” style, front and back. The red in the brocade has stained the white base, an intentional feature typical of older Nahuala huipils.
It is in very good condition. It was acquired from Tomasa Calbo Mateo of Chichicastenango at the “bomberos” textiles market in Panajachel.
