Nahuala daily huipil.

This very fine circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two matched white cotton base panels that are joined by “randas”, hand embroidered decorative seams. The surface decoration is by supplementary brocade featuring intermixed plumed serpent and universal diamond motifs in the “petate” style. The “mancha” or stain of the red running onto the white base is an intentional design feature of many older Nahuala huipils. This huipil has the traditional T-shaped head opening unique to Nahuala huipils, trimmed with hand embroidered chain stitch. The weaving on this huipil is exceptionally fine. It is in very good condition. It was acquired from Doña Dominga of Nahuala on Calle Santander in Panajachel. W 88 x L 75 cm. (4-287) $ 90. OBO
