Nahualá corte (wrap skirt).
This post-2000 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in two matching indigo dyed weft striped cotton
panels joined by “randas”, hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels feature ikat dye patterns in the weft stripes. Ikat is a dyeing
technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying process similar to tie-dye. This fine example is in excellent condition.
The top photograph shows only half of the material as the warp ends are joined in a loop.
It was acquired from Sra. Juana Mateo Rosales at her stall in Tinamit Maya in Panajachel. W 97 x L 244 cm. (23-33) $ 100 or best offer.
