Nahuala daily huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back-strap loom in two warp-striped cotton panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The blue base thread is the natural dye, indigo. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade in cotton and rayon (to mimic silk) with horizontal bans featuring the “compepe muerte” (aka, broken neck turkey) motif. I speculate that his motif has something to do with turkey, native to the Western Hemisphere, being a traditional festival food. This example is in very good condition. It was acquired from a private collection in Antigua. W 79 x L 76 cm. (19-138) $ 100 or best offer.
