Nahuala vintage ceremonial huipil. (possibly Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan)
This circa-1970 huipil was hand woven on a back-strap loom in three white cotton panels. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade in cotton and rayon.
The principal motif is the double-headed eagle on the center panel. It also has lion motifs on the outer panels that are often associated with huipils from
Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan. This example is in very good condition. It was acquired from the tienda of Sra. Bonifacia Bocó in the Mercado des Artesanos in
Antigua. W 82 x L 73 cm. (19-137a) $ 140 or best offer.
