Nahuala daily huipil.
This huipil was hand woven on a back-strap loom in two well balanced, warp-striped cotton panels joined
by hand embroidered decorative seams. The blue base thread was dyed with the natural dye, indigo. The surface decoration is
supplementary brocade in cotton and rayon (to mimic silk) with horizontal bans featuring the “compepe muerte” (aka, broken
neck turkey) motif. I speculate that his motif has something to do with turkey being a festival food. It has the T-shaped
head opening unique to Nahuala. This beautiful example is in excellent condition. . It was acquired from an anonymous private
collection in Guatemala. W 72 x L 76 cm. (18-69) $150. OBO
