Nahualá ceremonial huipil.

This circa-1980 huipil is considered ceremonial because of its three panel construction that features a double-headed eagle motif in the central motif. This style of Nahualá huipils is referred to in Quiche as “kashlan po’t”. This huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and rayon (to mimic silk). Typical of older Nahuala huipils, the red brocade has bled on to the white base, an intentional design feature. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Manuela Marroquin of Nahuala at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W75 x L66 cm. (13-46) $ 90. OBO
