Nahuala huipil. W87 x L145 cm opened. This circa-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well balanced white cotton base panels. The panels are joined by a hand embroidered decorative seams and are densely decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and purple rayon. The supplementary brocade is in the "petate" (floor mat) style and features universal diamond and bird motifs. The brocade was intentionally done in a non-color fast purple thread so as to bleed onto the white base, a common design feature unique to Nahuala. The collar is in the most traditional T-style and trimmed with embroidered chain stitch. This beautiful example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Maria Huarcus Aigua of Chichicastenango. (10-58) $ 110. SOLD.
