Nahualá huipil. W90 x L148 cm opened. This fine circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well matched white cotton base panels. These panels are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams and densely decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and rayon in the "petate" style. Here the brocade features the universal diamond motif and other bird and geometric patterns. The brocade was intentionally done in a non-color fast thread so as to bleed onto the white base, a feature typical of older Nahualá huipils . The tradional T-shaped head hole and the arm holes are trimmed in hand embroidered pink rayon. This beautiful example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (10-53) $ 100. Sold.
