Momostenango huipil.

This huipil was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in one cotton panel, red above and green below. The Momostenango style huipil involves the creation of diamond patterns by the juxtaposition of ikat dyed weft stripes, a technique unique to Momostenango. The head opening is decorated with hand embroidered buttonhole stitch. Quality Momostenango huipils, such as this one, are increasingly hard to find. This example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sra. Carmen Tepeú at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 88 x L 75 cm. (18-73) $ 125. OBO
