Momostenango daily huipil.

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in two well-matched cotton base panels, red above and white below. The Momostenango style huipil involves the creation of diamond patterns by the juxtaposition of ikat dyed weft striples, a technique unique to Momostenango. This very fine example is the largest Momostenango huipil we’ve seen. The blue weft stripes are indigo dyed. The head and arm openings are decorated with “china cinta” ribbon. Quality Momostenango huipils, such as this one, are increasingly hard to find. This example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Carmen Tepeú at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 109 x L 93 cm. (16-170) $ 140. OBO
