Momostenango daily huipil.

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels. Momostenango style involves the creation of diamonds in the weaving by the juxtaposition of ikat dyed weft threads. This technique is unique to Momostenango. Concentric circles of hand embroidered decoration surround the head opening. Momostenango huipils are now seldom seen being worn. This one is in very good condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel in Chichicastenango. W 79 x L 67 cm. (12-287) $ 80.
