Momostenango daily huipil.

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels. Momostenango style involves the creation of diamonds in the weaving by the juxtaposition of ikat dyed weft threads. This technique is unique to Momostenango. Momostenango huipils are now seldom seen being worn. The head opening is trimmed with velvet and the arm openings with “china cinta” ribbon. This example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Julio Cesar Ajanel on Calle Santander in Panajachel. W 79 x L 67 cm. (12-122) $ 80.
