Momostenango is a Quiche speaking town in the department of Totonicapan. It is famous for the production of heavy woolen blankets. The town’s
name means “place of the alters” and it is also famous as a ceremonial center associated with the 260 day cycle of the Maya religious calendar.
Momostenango huipils feature weft stripes with ikat points that are arranged to form geometric patterns. These huipils are increasingly rare.
