Huitan daily huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two very well -matched red cotton base panels with weft stripes in various colors. These panels are joined by very fine hand embroidered decorative seams. The panels are decorated by well-matched horizontal bands of supplementary brocade featuring geometric motifs, particularly the universal diamond motifs across the chest. Traditional textiles in the Huitan style are rare. This is a very fine example. It is in like new condition. It was acquired from Sra. Petronila Mendez Bocó at her “tienda” in the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua Guatemala. W 89 x L 84 cm. (16-169) $ 100. OBO
