Huitan daily huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well -matched red cotton base panels with weft stripes in various colors and designs. These panels are joined by very fine hand embroidered decorative seams. The panels are decorated by well-matched horizontal bands of supplementary brocade featuring geometric motifs, particularly the plumed serpent motif across the chest. Traditional textiles in the Huitan style are rare. This is the very best example of a Huitan huipil we have seen outside of a museum. It is in excellent condition. It was acquired from a private collector in Antigua Guatemala. W 104 x L 84 cm. (12-285) $ 125.
