Huitan daily huipil. W 90 x L 174 cm opened. This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well -matched red cotton base panels with weft stripes in various colors. These panels are joined by very small hand embroidered decorative seams. They are decorated by very well matched horizontal bands of supplementary brocade featuring geometric motifs. The head and arm openings are trimmed with velvet. Traditional textiles in the Huitan style are rare. This is the best example of a Huitan huipil we have seen. This fine example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (See Ana Carolina's picture in our "Vendors" section. (11-39) $ 100.
