Huitan daily huipil. W87 x L164 cm opened. This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well-matched red cotton base panels. These panels are decorated by horizontal bands of supplementary brocade featuring various geometric motifs. The collar is decorated with a machine embroidered appliqué and, along with the arm holes trimmed with velvet. Traditional textiles in the Huitan style are very rare. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Tomasa Calbo Mateo of Chichicastenango at the “bomberos” market in Panajachel. (10-64) $ 75. SOLD. Other very similar available.
