San Juan Cotzal huipil. This fine circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade featuring bird and geometric designs typical of Cotzal huipils. The center panel is wider, more heavily decorated and features hand spun white base thread. The traditional collar design is hand embroidered with four points representing the cardinal directions and, reputedly, stylized jaguar faces. This classic example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sra. Carmen Tepeú of San Pedro Sacatepequez (G). W 80 x L 63 cm. (21-27) $ 200. OBO |
