San Juan Cotzal daily huipil.

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three black cotton base panels. The principal decoration is supplementary brocade featuring bird and geometric designs typical of Cotzal huipils. The center panel is wider and more heavily decorated. The traditional collar design is hand embroidered with four points representing the cardinal directions and, reputedly, stylized jaguar faces. This classic example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Ana Carolina Ajanel at her tienda in Chichicastenango. W 83 x L 58 cm. (16-84) $ 195. OBO
