San Juan Cotzal vintage rebozo.

This circa-1970 rebozo was hand woven on a back strap loom in two warp-striped cotton panels. The blue stripes are indigo dyed. The panels are joined by an hand-embroidered seam using two strands of hand-spun thread. On older examples of Cotzal rebozos, such as this one, there is no brocade surface decoration. It has fringes of finely knotted warp threads on both ends. This classic traditional example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Petronila Mendez Bocó at her “tienda” in the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua. W 100 x L 190 plus fringes. (16-196) $ 200. OBO
