San Juan Cotzal daily huipil.

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels that are decorated with supplementary brocade featuring bird and geometric motifs. The traditional collar design is hand embroidered with four points representing the cardinal directions and, reputedly, stylized jaguar faces. The color combination of this huipil is classic and the same as Cotzal ceremonial huipils. The base thread in the center panel is hand spun. This fine example is in excellent condition. From Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at her stall in the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua. W 89 X L 70 cm. (15-261) $ 220. OBO
