San Juan Cotzal daily huipil. This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three blue cotton panels decorated with supplementary brocade featuring bird and geometric motifs. The traditional collar design is hand embroidered with four points representing the cardinal directions and, reputedly, stylized jaguar faces. This beautiful example is in excellent condition. From Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at her stall in the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua. W 79 X L 46 cm. (15-260) $ 180. |
