San Juan Cotzal ceremonial huipil.

This large post-1980 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 white cotton panels decorated with supplementary brocade featuring bird, plant and geometric motifs. The traditional collar design is hand embroidered with four points representing the cardinal irections. The thread used in the base of the center panel is hand spun. This fine example is in like new condition. Although stylistically correct, it appears unused and, hence, a copy. It was acquired from Manuel Guarcas y Guarcas at the Chichicastenango market. W 112 x L 210 cm opened. (11-36) $ 300. OBO
