San Juan Cotzal daily huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton base panels. The principal decoration is supplementary brocade featuring bird and geometric designs typical of Cotzal huipils. The center panel is wider and more heavily decorated. The traditional collar design is hand embroidered with four points representing the cardinal directions and, possibly, stylized jaguar faces. This example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Maria Huarcas Aigua of Chichicastenango at the “bomberos” market in Panajachel. W 86 x L 58 cm. (10-118) $125. OBO
