Concepcion Chicarichapa cinta (hair ribbon).

This circa-1980 cinta was hand woven on a back strap loom. It is decorated with quetzal bird and floral motifs in supplementary brocade. The ends are trimmed with a lace appliqué. The weaver has used “hilo manchado”, a thread dyed in various colors that change gradually, popular among weavers in Concepcion Chicarichapa. This cinta is in very good condition. It was acquired from Tomasa Calbo Mateo of Chichicastenango at the “bomberos” textile market in Panajachel. W 8.8 x L 236 cm. (10-346) $ 50. OBO
