San Juan Comalapa wedding huipil. W106 x L128 cm opened. This post-1980 wedding huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide black cotton panels. These panels are decorated with horizontal bands of supplementary brocade featuring primarily floral motifs. The central element is a band of multi-colored tropical birds. The arm and head openings are trimmed with velvet. This extraordinary Comalapa wedding huipil is the best example we’ve seen and even larger than typical Comalapa ceremonial huipils. Like all Comalapa ceremonials, it is decorated to the hem and worn outside the skirt. It is in perfect condition. It was acquired from a private collector in Antigua Guatemala. (9-323) $ 450. SOLD.
