San Juan Comalapa ceremonial (sobre) huipil.

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well matched, hand spun, natural brown cotton base panels. These panels are decorated with horizontal bands of supplementary weft brocade, much of it in silk. Red stripes across the shoulders are a standard feature of traditional Comalapa huipils. This classic sobre huipil was worn over the regular huipil at “cofradia” ceremonies, weddings and other ceremonial functions. It is in very good condition. It was acquired from a private collection in Guatemala. W101 x L 68 cm. (18-44) $320. OBO
