Colotenango corte (wrap skirt).

This circa-1980 corte was hand woven on a back strap loom in two warp striped cotton panels. The stripes are primarily red and an indigo dyed blue. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in various geometric patterns. Cortes of the Colotenango area are the most elaborate among the few villages where skirts are woven on back strap looms. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel in Chichicastenango. Typically, we sell cortes for yardage. W84 x L219 cm. (5-131) $ 180.
