Coban daily huipil. W101 x L94 cm opened. This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three cotton panels. It is decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and rayon (to mimic silk) on a black base. Deer, people and universal diamonds are the predominant motifs. Like all Coban huipils, the interior is a forest of loose threads. Coban style huipils are now worn widely by Guatemalan Maya women. The head and arm holes are trimmed with velveteen.
