Coban huipil.

This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three black cotton base panels. It is decorated with dense supplementary weft brocade in horizontal bands. Motifs in the brocade include deer (traditional in Coban huipiles), people, plants and universal diamonds. Like all Coban huipils, the interior is a forest of loose threads. Coban style huipils are now worn widely by Guatemalan Maya women. This fine example is in the classic style and in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Ema Tepeu of San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) in Antigua. W 91 x L 52 cm. (20-22) $ 200 or best offer.
