Coban huipil.

This very fine post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three black cotton base panels. It is decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and rayon to mimic silk. Motifs in the brocade include deer (traditional to Coban), people, paired quetzal birds and universal diamonds. Like all Coban huipils, the interior is a forest of loose threads. Coban style huipils are now worn widely by Guatemalan Maya women. The head hole is large for easy access. It is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sra. Maria Ramos at her tienda in Chichicastenango. W 98 x L 46 cm. (19-122) $ 220 or best offer.
