Coban gauze huipil. This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three loose white cotton base panels. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade featuring rows of universal diamond motifs. The head and arm openings are surrounded by rows of hand embroidered flowers created utilizing a wrapped needle technique. Because of their lightness, Coban guaze huipils are now worn widely by Guatemalan Maya women when its hot. The head and arm openings are trimmed with black crochet. This huipil is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Juana Mateo Rosales of Panajachel. See her picture in the "Vendors" section. W103 x L51 cm. (14-05) $ 140. OBO
