Coban daily huipil. W 91 x L 111 cm opened. This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three loose white cotton base panels that have gauze sections. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade featuring rows of figures that look like ducks. The head and arm openings are surrounded by rows of hand embroidered flowers created utilizing a wrapped needle technique. Because of their lightness, Coban guaze huipils are now worn widely by Guatemalan Maya women. The head and arm openings are also trimmed with black crochet. This huipil is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Ema and Carmen Tepeu at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala. See their pictures in the "Vendors" section. (11-24) $ 90. Sold.
