Coban daily huipil. W 102 x L 95 cm opened. This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton base panels of equal width. These panels are densely covered with supplementary brocade in many colors, featuring the deer motif typical of Coban huipils and universal diamonds. The collar is trimmed with heavy and complex embroidery in a style associated with San Pedro Sacatepequez (G). Coban style huipils are popular among Guatemalan Maya women throughout the Maya area. This fine example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from the Nim Po’t Collection of Antigua Guatemala. (11-16) $ 95.
